About us
The Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) is a Dutch International Primary and Secondary School offering international education in English to approximately 2400 students of more than 80 different nationalities who are (temporarily) living in the Netherlands and are enjoying high quality, accessible, community based international learning.

The AICS is a partly-state-funded community school, which enables us to deliver high-quality education at competitive fees. We were the first school in the Netherlands to offer the full IB continuum (IB, PYP, MYP, DP and CP) and are a fully accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS).

You are a teacher who values collaboration, demonstrates flexibility in a dynamic learning environment, and is committed to the continuous development of both students and your own professional practice.

  • At least two years of primary school teaching experience - experience preferably in a special education setting
  • A valid primary teaching qualification recognised by DUO to be able to teach in a primary school in the Netherlands
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of special education teaching methodologies
  • An understanding and knowledge of various cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent command of the English language and communication skills
  • A commitment to the school’s mission to provide high-quality community-based international learning in the form of the IB programme
  • A resilient attitude and a good sense of humour
  • You excel in planning and organising engaging lessons while building and maintaining strong relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.

About the position

  • Temporary full-time cover position as a special education classroom teacher
  • Starting August 2026
  • Looking for a qualified teacher with a strong understanding of special education practices, ideally with experience in the International Baccalaureate “Primary Years Programme” (PYP)
  • You feel confident being part of a large school community, collaborating on curriculum planning and enjoy working as part of a professional team
  • You are able to cater for students with many different social, emotional, and educational needs, from a variety of different cultural backgrounds and countries.

  • Salary in LB payscale, based upon knowledge and experience (min. €3622,- max. €5520,- full-time per month, before tax)

The first interview is meant to get a good impression of each other. You will receive an explanation of the (school) organisation and the position. Afterwards, you will be interviewed to get an idea of whether you are suitable for the position. Of course, we look at your knowledge and experience, but especially at your motives and ambitions.
